Please note that this chronological timeline synopsis does have minor spoilers in it, just as reading it in this order will have spoilers if you haven’t read the series before.

I love rereading my favourite stories, and when it comes to a series as big as this one, I want to read it in chronological order. I found it incredibly hard to find a timeline order online that includes everything – books, short stories, blog posts, specialty crossovers, etc. So I figured why not make one right here on my own webpage so that I can look back on it time and again.

The Hollows is an urban fantasy series written by Kim Harrison and is about a witch, a living vampire and a pixy living in a church and kicking butt to save the world, time and again. Rachel Morgan is a kick-butt heroine with a lot of flaws and a lot of compassion, and a whole lot to learn. She’s easy to fall in love with, just like the rest of the characters in this series.

Chronological Timeline

Sudden Backtrack
This takes place 2000 years beforehand, from Al’s perspective, about the curse put on the demons.

#1 Dead Witch Walking
Rachel quits the IS and has to overcome a death threat put out by her employer, while learning to live with new roommates.

#2 The Good, the Bad, and the Undead
It’s up to Rachel to figure out who is killing ley line witches and help the FIB end the murder spree.

#3 Every Witch Way but Dead
Rachel must deal with Al to get out of her deal with him, and also deal with the new problem of another witch who is just like her.

’twas the Night of the Solstice
A small rhyming story that mimics ’twas the Night Before Christmas. Does not actually align with the series.

#4 A Fistful of Charms
Rachel must take a road trip to help save ex-boyfriend Nick and stealing a Were artefact from two different Were packs.

The Bridges of Eden Park
Rachel and Kisten help stop the abduction of Kist’s nephew

#5 For a Few Demons More
Rachel must solve the problem of the Were artefact, which forces her to deal with vampires, demons and elves.

Dirty Magic
A short story about Mia, a banshee, and her love affair with a musician who has fallen ill due to her nature.

#6 The Outlaw Demon Wails
Rachel learns more about her true heritage while helping Trent get a DNA sample from the ever after.


#8 Black Magic Sanction
The coven is trying to gain control over Rachel by way of her shunning, and Rachel must find a way to stay out of Alcatraz and away from a lobotomy.


#10 A Perfect Blood
Rachel investigates a string of murders tied to HAPA, an anti-magic hate group, and finds herself in more trouble than she can handle.




#11 Ever After
The ever after is shrinking and it’s up to Rachel to stop it, while also fighting to save those she cares about the most.



Waylaid
Peri Reed must help Rachel Morgan get back to her own world in this crossover fiction.
